My roots.
I was raised in the farmhouse in which my father was born, on a farm that was in my family for over 100 years. I learned how to drive a tractor when I was twelve. I’ve herded cattle, mucked stables, picked rocks, baled hay, and mended fences. Farm life was full of opportunities to tend to sick or abandoned runt piglets, kittens, chipmunks, bunnies, birds, and mice. I was the kid in school who was known as the artist. Classmates asked me to illustrate their book reports or give them drawings for birthdays. I made shoebox dioramas for Kiddles and crocheted clothes for cats.
